Amazon recently served notice to Apple and its iPad with the introduction of the Kindle Fire. The Fire is one impressive tablet. Reviewer Sascha Segan went so far as to call it "revolutionary." High praise indeed. Even better, this "easy-to-use, affordable small-screen tablet" costs only $199. Those of you who've been wanting an iPad but are turned off by the steep $499 (or more) price tag may find the Kindle Fire a worthy alternative.

It may cost less than half the price of an iPad but that doesn't mean you should just throw it in your backpack and let it be jostled around, unprotected all day.
