Craftsman is making old-school garage door openers a thing of the past. The Sears-owned hardware brand has announced a pair of new openers that connect to the Internet and allow to have remote access from anywhere in the world.
That is to say, if you head to the airport and hop a flight to South Africa, only to realize you accidentally forgot to close your garage door, you'll be able to rectify that problem from your Cape Town hotel room.
It's possible with Craftsman's "AssureLink" product line. As long as you're able to connect the module to a router, you're all set. You can check garage door status and open/close from anywhere with an Internet connection. There are also dedicated iPhone and Android apps for that functionality.
The garage door openers themselves are set to retail for around $300, while the AssureLink service costs $20 per year.
